LA Fashion Council - Open Runway Part 2

The cameras were rolling a couple of weeks ago at Open Runway Part 2 an event held by the Los Angeles Fashion Council. The producers of Fashion Police (and crew) were there to document five emerging designers as they competed for a spot in LAFC's October runway shows "The Collections" which will now be  held at The Grove in Los Angeles.  Here are some highlights from the night. (Note: I forgot my memory card for my camera, so I had to use my phone for pictures.)

Fall 2011 Look Book Preview

Good morning Darlins!  I find myself this morning,  very grateful yet very tired.  As some of you may know (twitter followers) this past weekend was my Fall 2011 Look Book photo shoot.  So all week long I was prepping and organizing for the shoot.  Then, because the shoot was quite a distance for the models on Saturday, the girls spent the night at my place.  So I thought why not take them out for a little dinner at a local posh restaurant.   It turned out to be a loooooong night.  We went from appetizers to the dance floor.  Over all, it was a blast.

Food was delicious.

Yes, at this point....I was feeling 30.

After our long night of celebrating, the gals and I had a call time of 7:00am the next morning.  I was up and crazy! I mean I was running around like a crazy woman.  We had a time frame and I had to stick to it.  And guess what? I did it! Thank you Lord! Also, thank you Lord for the amazing weather. The over-cast was perfect for the shoot that morning.  So after a long morning of ants, bugs, dirt, trips, lizards and scares (lizards), we completed the shoot.  I couldn't have done it without these lovely ladies and of course my hubby. Much love.

New Direction

New Summer Collection for M.Velia

Good day darlins! So once again I've gone M.I.A. on my blog but please bare with me, for I've been one busy lady lately.  And to all of my readers all around the world......thank you for always coming back to share my journey in fashion. Love you!

So, what's with my "new career/business path" , "new goal and new direction for my company"? Well after much thought and consideration, I decided to split my clothing line into different labels.  I really wanted to put more definition into each line, to not only insure proper branding but also direction.  I came upon this when I was cleaning out my mountain of fabrics and realized I had amazing fabrics that ranged from $7.00 a yard, to $50.00 a yard. I thought it'd be lovely to use every scrap of those expensive fabrics and combine them with the more affordable ones. Therefore giving me, M.Velia, my new ready-to-wear line that is affordable but still upholds the art of couture.  Sound familiar? Why yes! I wanted to carrying on with the same feel from my previous label but at a better price point.

So what's to be of my self-named label, Melissa Velia ?  Well, Melissa Velia will now be my designer label. It will be a high-end attire collection for those fabulous social events.

And last, I will have my couture gown collection, Haus of Graciano.  I know it all sounds  a bit confusing right now and I seem to be all over the place but in truth this is one of the biggest foundation in my career and my company to date.  I am really excited about launching M.Velia and Melissa Velia's Summer collections, this June. So stay tuned darlins! And thank you for all of your support!

I Contest !

So this is it darlins! What I've been mentioning all week, the Vitamin Water Contest.  Wow, it was something else to make this happen.  First, I had to get the funds from the company (because they paid for this gown to be made), which was only last Saturday.  Then, I had to rush my butt to my local fabric store, which unfortunately for something like this was a Joann Store. Then without a design idea in my head, I bought fabrics, trims and all the details.  I just kept in mind the color, yellow and the name Squeeze.

When I got home it was all madness, then two days later....I was done!  Check it out...

Once again darlins, I can't show you the whole gown just yet. It's part of the rules to the contest but you can bet, that I will be tweeting the dress Saturday night, along with the number to text to vote for me!

If you vote for me, I love you forever! (lol) Really I worked so hard on this dress in such little time, I felt like I was on Project Runway.
