Melissa Velia - FALL 2013 COLLECTION Look Book

 

Introducing my Fall 2013 collection!  Although it is not the entire collection, it is the majority of it in it's prints and details.  I decided not to share the entire collection this early in the season due to those who might be "inspired" by my collection.  Believe it or not, but I've already had issues with things like that in the past.  My collections are never inspired by other designers but inspired by the crazy world inside my head. I decided to shoot this collection with a vintage filter and an off-lighting to bring out my inspiration in the collection.  Instead of doing a fashion show this season, I choose to do a look book and a collection video which is scheduled to be released late this summer.  So without further ado, here the Fall 2013 Look Book.

Miss me? I know right, not so much. (Ha!)  Once again my schedule has taken priority in my life. I've been a busy little bee.  Hmmm...I'd say more like a busy bumble bee after this Thanksgiving.  My holiday started out wonderful and ended with a slap in the face.  Not in a physical form but in an emotional form.  Never the less, some good is definitely upon me.

I strongly believe any garment can be dressed-up or down, for that's the beauty of style.

I wore the first outfit to a meeting yesterday for a model casting for my upcoming photo shoot next month.  I am so excited about the collection and the theme of the shoot.  It will be a bitter sweet shoot for me this time, for I will be missing someone very dear to me.  But, the show must gone on and so must business.  Also new in my world,

-pending wholesale orders

-a huge fashion blogger in Brazil was told by a reader to check-out my line.  And now, something's in  the works.

-I'll be doing my first blog give-away next month...SHOES!

-I'll be adding the LookBook Shop to my website (details coming soon)

-I'm going on VACATION! Yes, this....is new to me. Ha!

So tons to be thankful for this year, regardless of the disappointments.  More importantly, I am thankful for my God and my family, for whom without...I would not be here today.

Beautiful Mission

I am currently hosting a little contest for my Spring 2012 Collection Campaign called "Beauty Is Contest".  The contest goes as follows:

 Email your photo to m.velia@melissavelia.com or upload it on to our FaceBook Page at www.facebook.com/DesignerMelissaVelia, include your name & a sentence that begins with "Beauty is..." describing what beauty is to you. All images will be uploaded to our "Beauty Is Contest" album on our Facebook page. *You must be between the ages of 18 and 35 to enter. Any size, any height, any race. For beauty is truly with-in. *No professional or provocative photos please, they will not be accepted. *Ladies only. All photos must be in by September 14th.
Contest starts September 15th and will end promptly on October 15th.

My purpose or mission behind this contest is to really show the world that beauty is not necessarily model material. A size 0-2, taller then 5'9", smooth skin and a slick figure.  As you might have already noticed, the models that represent my collections are mostly a size 4 with curves.  Please don't get me wrong, I've worked with some beautiful models that were a size 0-2 and very thin. I'm just trying to say that they are not the ONLY ones who should be defined as beauty and fashion.  Especially fashion!  For fashion is beauty in itself.  Sometimes, a piece of clothing can make a woman feel more beautiful then any super model.  For some women it's their wedding dress, for others it's their maternity tunic, other's it's a designer top and for some...it's a piece of clothing, period. 

I'm truly looking forward to seeing who wins this contest and showing you all, what "Beauty Is".  If you would like to enter, there's still time.  After September 14th, the contest's doors close and voting begins.  And if you don't enter, I hope you take the time to vote at least.

So these past two weeks have been somewhat of a world-wind. I truly want to blog about everything that's been going on but I don't want to overwhelm ya.  So I'll start with the last of the pictures and videos from the Project Ethos fashion show.

Fittings & Models

Hello Lovelies,

So this weekend was the first and only fittings for the fashion show next weekend.  It was great meeting all the models and the Ballerina who will open from my show.  Over all the fittings went great. The girls showed up on time, with great shoes to choose from and ready for the runway.  The only troubles were, if any, avoiding sharing models with the other designers (which I'm not) and finding the right garments for the right girl and the right body type.  It was all madness and I couldn't have done it without my two assistants. They were fabulous!  And if your wondering if I finished my collection before the fittings deadline.....I didn't.  I still have 3 more pieces to go plus my dress and the Vitamin Water Contest gown.  I'll tell you more about the contest on the next post.  For now, I leave you with some pictures from the fitting and a couple of sneak peeks from my collection. Casting Call

So my weekend started off fabulous with a brunch date in Beverly Hills.  The day was simply gorgeous out, which was a good thing because I had to walk all around Wilshire and Beverly to find a darn ATM. Leave it to me to park somewhere that only accepts cash and not have any on me. I mean who really carries cash these days.  Needless to say I found an ATM. Thanks Nicky, for going on a mission with me and brunch.

After, I headed over to the casting call which was being held at the Project Ethos headquarters.

I wasn't surprised to find it a lovely little office but I was surprised to find a mini film crew there. What they were filming...well, your just gonna have to wait for that one. Let's just say, I hope I look good on camera. Anyways, the models lined up around the building waiting for their turn to me measured, numbered and photographed before going in to strut their stuff down the imaginary runway.

Finally, one by one they walked the "runway", while I observed their looks, walk and style. I know, what does style have to do with the modeling?  I don't know, I guess it's just a habit of mine.

After each set of girls walked, they'd line them up for us (the other designers and I) to choose numbers and take notes.

Yes, I know it's messy! Hey, I was writing as fast I could. Really.

In the end, I was fortunate to find a few girls I'd like to work with in March but a few just won't do...I needed 15. So my search continues.

This week I'll hopefully be meeting with a Ballerina (reasons, TBA), finish my couture dress, finish my line sheets...the list goes on and on.  Hope you all have a fabulous week!
