On the mend

Well hello Lovelies!  It's been quite the busy past couple of weeks for me. I can't believe Christmas is around the corner! I'm so glad I finished my Christmas shopping in October. (Lol)  As you can tell, I am not a procrastinator.  If I don't get to something it's because I'm dead or I already have 500 things going on.

With that said, I've finally started working on new pieces. My new business plan is one I've come to terms with after taking the past 6 months off.  Unlike some of my dear friends whom are clothing designers, I have two little boys and a husband. Therefore, devoting my life to my brand is really not an option for me.  You know that saying, "you can't have your cake and eat it too?" (Umm..wait, that just didn't make any sense to me) Anyways you get the point of that saying, well I'm here to tell you, you can! In other words you may not be able to eat your cake right at that moment you want to but you can lick the frosting while you wait for that moment to come. Is this making any sense at all?!  Well I've said it once and I'll say it again, my family comes before my career. I will be "licking the frosting" until my time comes.  I wouldn't want to miss a moment of raising my sons.

So come Spring 2014, I will be releasing one of a kind pieces in different sizes, colors, fabrics and textures. Not a collection but more of my creativity gone wild. Which in all honesty, I feel collections sometimes limit my creativity all together. I've put aside any plans to wholesale at this time, therefore price points will be low for designer originals. So God Willing, this Spring I'll be hosting pop up shops all around town with all the new stuff. I'll be posting previews till then on Instagram.

Hope your week is inspirational, Lovelies!

I'm Back

Hello Lovely Readers,

It's been awhile hasn't it?  Last month was simply crazy for me.  So much so, I had to put my whole world on hold, including my company because.....

...after much prayer, my husband and I decided to sell our home in Murrieta, CA and move back to L.A.  It was truly one of the most stressful things I've ever had to do.  I'm surprise I still have hair on my head! Although, I did gain ten stress pounds.  I would have never guessed that some people would negotiate so many petty things when buying a house, that I'm surprised they did ask to throw in one of my sons as part of the deal. In the end, we walked away with what we really wanted and a sense of adventure ahead.

After eight years of living in other cites, it felt good to be back home in LaLaLand, minus the traffic and some of the rude people (I'm just saying).  God Willing we will be buying our new home here at the end of this year but for now it will be apartment living.  Which means my work space/ studio/ office will be in a walk-in closet.  Yes you read right, I will be putting together my summer pieces and spring 2014 in that little box.  Lord only knows how I will pull this off but I'm going to try because a month of not designing, creating or working, just killed me.  I breath fashion.

So now you know where I've been the past month and what's to come from Melissa Velia.  I'm back to work today and I'm back in L.A. Cheers!!

New Blog Direction

Fall 2013 Flat

Hello Lovelies!

Well....I've decided to go in a new direction with my blog.  I think I've been a bit confused about what content I really wanted to share on here.  After much thought, I've decided that my blog will go back to what I set it out to be, an open journal into my world in fashion.  I have decided to no longer sponsor brands (in less it's one of my must haves), do give-aways (those will be on my Facebook page), DIYs, How-To's, etc.  There are a lot of great fashion blogs out there that have all that good stuff plus style tips and more.  Some of those great blogs, you'll find under "Blogs I Love" on the right.  My blog will now be an almost daily accounting of my day/days, projects, personal life, trials, photo shoots, collections, events and more.  Some days, my post maybe small or boring, others may have some drama or sneak peeks into my latest collections. I will still be doing more "Interviewing the Dreamer" post because I love to read about other peoples journeys. Never the less, I hope you continue to read and support my little world here and maybe it will be a bit inspiring.

You can also join in on my world on my Instagram under MelissaVelia.

On to the NEW!
